Hubaal — Somali for certainty
Hubaal Technologies builds and operates health infrastructure for Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa. We make Boogso — the app that puts hospitals, doctors, ambulances and a patient's own medical records in one place.
01 The company
Healthcare in the Horn of Africa is not short of skilled clinicians or of working hospitals. What it lacks is the connective layer — the systems that let a patient find the right doctor, that carry a record from one clinic to the next, and that get an ambulance to a house on a street with no name.
Hubaal exists to build that layer. Not as a pilot, not as a donor project with an end date, but as a company that operates its own products and is accountable for whether they work on a Tuesday afternoon in Mogadishu.
We are deliberately a technology company rather than a health company. The problems we solve — identity, records, routing, dispatch, payment — are infrastructure problems that happen to be pointed at health first.
The product tells you to get well. The company tells you it's dependable. That division is intentional — and it's why the app and the company have different names.
02 Products
Boogso is the patient side, and it is the thing we ship first and operate ourselves.
Behind it sits the other half of the same problem: the software a hospital, clinic, laboratory or pharmacy actually runs its day on. Those are in build now — listed below, with an honest stage against each.
A single app for finding a hospital or specialist, booking an appointment, requesting an ambulance with live location, and carrying your medical records under one permanent Health ID. Available in Somali and English.
Boogso comes from the Somali root for healing — read as an imperative: get well.
03 In development
Five systems for the provider side, sharing one patient record, one billing spine and one login.
A facility does not need five unrelated programmes. It needs the one that matches what it is — and it needs that one to speak to the laboratory down the road, to the pharmacy in the same building, and to the patient's record on Boogso.
Each is being built as its own product with its own pricing, on a shared platform. Stages below are current as of August 2026 and we update them rather than quietly leave them.
HMS · the largest of the five
Admissions, wards and bed state, theatre lists, orders, stock and billing in one system. Built for facilities taking cash, mobile money and diaspora payments side by side — and for wards where the connection drops in the afternoon and the shift still has to run.
The other four are, in effect, this system narrowed to a discipline. Building the hospital case first is what keeps them from drifting into four unrelated products.
CMS
The same spine, sized for one to ten clinicians. Registration, the queue, consultation notes, dispensing, and a day's takings that reconcile at closing without a spreadsheet and an argument.
PMS
Stock by batch and expiry, supplier ordering, and dispensing tied to a real prescription rather than a loose note. Expiry visibility is the whole point — it is where a pharmacy's margin quietly leaves the building.
LMS
Test ordering, sample tracking from reception through to result, and results returned to the referring clinician and to the patient's Boogso record — instead of a printed sheet that gets lost between two buildings.
DMS
Tooth-chart clinical records, treatment plans that run across months, and instalment billing. Dentistry is scheduled and paid unlike anything else in a clinic, so it gets a proper module rather than a bent version of the clinic one.
The platform underneath
Odoo is what most Somali businesses that computerised at all have computerised on. We build the health system on it rather than beside it — so the finance office keeps the software it knows, and the wards get something new.
Odoo is already in use across Somali business — in trading houses, in pharmacy chains, in the finance offices of the larger hospitals. That matters more than it sounds. A system nobody in the building has seen before has to win an argument before it gets installed. One built on Odoo starts the conversation with a finance manager who already recognises the screens, a bookkeeper who can already use them, and a local market of people who can be hired to support it.
It also means the unglamorous half of a hospital system — accounting, purchasing, inventory, payroll, multi-branch, user roles, audit trail — is mature software we are not rewriting. Our engineering goes where the market actually differs.
A facility already running Odoo for its finances keeps that ledger. We add the health layer above it rather than asking anyone to migrate their accounts.
04 How we build
These aren't values on a wall. Each one has cost us something in a product decision already.
Not the connection a demo has. Our apps are small, work on 3G, and degrade to something useful rather than to a spinner. A feature that only works on good Wi-Fi in a capital city is not shipped.
Every interface, every article, every support conversation exists in Somali from the first release. Retro-fitting a language is how you end up with an English product wearing a costume.
We earn from transactions on the platform and from tooling we sell to institutions. We do not sell health data to advertisers, brokers or insurers, and we've written that constraint into the product rather than only into a policy.
We are not a contractor delivering a system and leaving. Hubaal runs Boogso, answers its support messages, and carries the consequences of its outages. That changes what you're willing to ship.
Boogso is a self-contained asset: its own domain, its own identity, every URL in the app pointing at itself. Nothing product-facing lives on hubaal.tech. It means a product can grow, partner or be spun out without renaming a company.
05 What we do
The problems underneath Boogso are general. Where they're useful to an institution rather than a patient, we build them as products in their own right — which is what the systems above are.
A permanent Health ID and a record layer that works across unaffiliated public and private facilities, with consent held by the patient.
Location-attached ambulance requests routed to partner services — built for cities without formal street addressing.
Directory, availability and booking management for hospitals, clinics, individual practitioners and laboratories.
Mobile money and card settlement between patients, diaspora payers and providers, with receipts attached to the episode of care.
Aggregate, de-identified reporting across participating facilities for ministries and programmes — without exposing individual records.
Licensing and registration checks on every provider listed. A directory is only worth as much as the verification behind it.
06 Working together
